Commercial Pilot License (CPL)

Commercial Pilot License Course is basically a 2 years license program in the aviation sector. In the following 2 years students go through with ground classes of 3-6 months and after that a flying training of 200 hrs in a DGCA approved flying clubs. In CPL program student learns how to fly an airplane. Commercial Pilot License Licence is issued by DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation), Govt of India. Pilots are the backbone of the aviation industry. Highly trained professionals who go through in-depth training for flying various kinds of aircraft are known as pilots.

There are different specialization courses available for different types of aircraft. From learning to operate various types of aircraft such as passenger aircraft, goods aircraft, and mail aircraft, pilots are also responsible for maintaining the internal mechanisms of aircraft. For Commercial Pilot License a candidate firstly completes their ground classes of approx 3-6 months and after that they have to complete their 200 hrs of flying training. After completing the training a candidate gets their Commercial Pilot License and at that time they are able to fly an aircraft professionally as a co- pilot.

To become a professional pilot student must gain a type rated license.

There are different types of pilot licenses based on aircraft and flying purposes.

  • Airline Transport Pilots:– Those pilots who fly commercial planes by private airlines and transport customers are called airline transport pilots.
  • Private Pilots:– They are those pilots who can afford a private jet, preferring to have private pilots who can fly them around at any time required.
  • Sport Pilots:– Sports Pilots are required to fly under 10,000 feet and mostly stay within a certain range.
  • Flight Instructors:– They work under a training institution where their job is to train other aspiring candidates on how to fly.
  • Air Force Pilots:– Trained under the country’s air force, they are experts in flying the armed jets and work under the defense ministry.

Commercial Pilot License Eligibility

If a candidate wants to become a commercial pilot than they have to fulfill the eligibility criteria:-

  • The age of the candidate is not less than 17 at the time of admission.
  • Candidate must clear their 12th standard in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in any board.
  • A candidate should have scored a minimum aggregate of 50% marks to become eligible for CPL.
  • 3 year engineering diploma holder candidate is also eligible for CPL Course.
  • A candidate is required to pass the class 2 medical test to become eligible for CPL.

Commercial Pilot License Course Duration

Commercial Pilot License (CPL) is approx 2 years of license program in which the ground class, stimulator training, and flying training are included. The total duration for CPL ground classes is approx 3-6 months where students gain knowledge all about aircraft and at that time they complete their modules. In CPL there are 6 modules. In the ground class time students get training through a simulator (If available in campus). After that student has to complete flying training in the live environment of 200 hours with single-engine or multi-engine and then a candidate gains a Commercial pilot License (CPL). To become a professional Pilot candidates must gain their Type License.

  • To join CPL Course, a candidate should fill the form Pilot Common Entrance Test (PILOT CET).

In India, if one should have a flying experience of 250 hours they can work as a commercial pilot. The salary of commercial pilot is high in India. As a fresher, they can earn Rs 1.5 Lakh per month. After gaining experience, they can get Rs. 5 to 6 Lakh per month on International route.
